In my family our tradition at Christmas is to open stockings first. Everyone buys everyone else a little something and puts it in their stocking. We were pleased to see that we each had a tasty looking giant sugar cookie shaped like a gingerbread man in our stockings. But wait...someone had written our names in chocolate on each cookie. No, not our names. "Uncie?" Jake asked, confused. "That's not what it says!" Val laughed. Then understanding dawned on Jake as he read "Auntie" on my cookie, "Grandma" on my mom's cookie, and "Oma" on Carla (BG's mom)'s cookie. "Really?" He asked Val, who nodded with emotion. The same understanding spread rapidly through the room, except for those, of course, who already knew and had been keeping the news secret (two grandmas of course!).
This is the first baby in our immediate family and we are all so excited! He (yes, HE) is due mid-July. Val and BG are going to make AWESOME parents! He's going to know French, English, and German. They have nicknamed him Gunter since some of us want to wait until he is born before we learn his name. I just hope he is born before I have to leave!
